Nicole Lenzen
Fashion Designer & Couturière
What do you make?
My specialty is custom wedding dresses, usually of the non-traditional type. Whenever possible I incorporate reclaimed vintage fabrics such as from the bride’s mom’s dress. And other projects in the works…

What did you dream about last night?
That I had woken up and it was Monday instead of Sunday, and I had lost an entire day - panic attack!

What inspires you?
Haute couture: the real thing. The making of an exquisitely crafted garment entirely by hand.
People: of the creative, ambitious, innovative, and overall lovely types.
Fabulous fabrics and trims!
Where do you live and what do you like about it?
In a fantastic apartment in Greenpoint: the sense of both peace and productivity I feel at home.
What is your biggest fear?
Ha! The same as you: Not achieving perfection. Also vulnerability.
Name a few of your favorite movies \ books \ websites \ bands:
Watch: Anything Hitchcock, dry British humour, or a hearty dose of French cynicism or drama. Almost nothing American, well except some of those heart-wrenching indie romance films (cringe).
Read: Anything I can learn from, historical fiction, biographies, Oscar Wilde, French novels that aren’t too esoteric, and lately some David Sedaris on the subway.
Listen: I get bored quite easily and not many bands pass the test of time. But when in Brooklyn…
This week: Here We Go Magic
This year: School of Seven Bells, Bowerbirds
The last year and a half: my band - Sidewalk TV
Before that: The Kills, Joanna Newsom, Placebo, LCD Soundsystem, Royksöpp, Múm
Always: Björk, PJ Harvey, Noir Désir, Nick Cave
What are you really good at? What are you really bad at:
I am really good at finishing what I start.
I am really bad at letting go completely.
What is your favourite thing to eat?
Dark chocolate, cheese, fresh seafood, locally grown fruit & vegetables (especially when in Cali), and my grandmother’s avgolemono soup
How would you like to be remembered?
How about just being remembered?
What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
Don’t you know those moments are erased from history?
Anything else you would like to say:
I know, you want to push my boundaries further. Baby steps!
